How Lamination Works

Lamination helps protect your cards from sunlight damage and scratches or scrapes by applying a film over your printed cards. There are many types of lamination film available including different thicknesses, with holographic images, with cutouts for magnetic stripes and smart chips, and more. Lamination also makes it harder to tamper with cards.

In traditional laminating ID card printers, your card is printed with your design and encoded first, then fed into an attached lamination module that uses a printhead to apply the film. These lamination modules are upgrade options on many high-end printers.
