How to Maintain your ID Card Printer Equipment

In the photo identification world, ID Wholesaler sells ID printers, equipment, and supplies from a variety of top manufacturers. Each one of these manufacturers has guidelines for maintaining their equipment, but for the most part, each printer follows generally the same cleaning regimen.

We recommend that you use a printer cleaning kit to keep your printer running smoothly at regular intervals. One rule of thumb is that whenever you change a printer ribbon, it’s also an optimal time to clean the printer.  If you get in the habit of cleaning the whole printer – not just the printhead – but the rollers and the area where cards are fed into the printer, it will remain in good working order. This regular due diligence allows the printer to print high quality cards, prevents the jamming of cards, and in some cases, ribbons breaking.

It’s best that you use the recommended genuine supplies by the manufacturer and not knock-offs.  In addition to potentially voiding your printer’s warranty, it may also compromise the overall performance of your printer.

If you’re installing printer ribbons, make sure you take the time to read the manual and install them correctly. If the ribbon cartridge is not installed correctly, it can cause streaking or printer jams and may delay your printing.

As with any workplace, equipment and electronics tend attract dust or airborne debris. For printers, this can cause damage not only to the printer but to the printhead resulting in an expensive repair. The best way to deter dust and debris is to use a dust cover when ordering your printer.
